The popular fashion and lifestyle publication will release a three part independent docu-series with the HM Studios production company. Editor in Chief, Rae Ashe is set to create educational content under the magazine’s umbrella. HEIGHT Magazine continues to provide positive literature through both its quarterly manual and official website. In a recent interview the Founder, gave insight on what to expect from the highly anticipated series.
“This documentary is based on actual family members who’ve been left out of what was intended to be a legacy for them to continue. Yet, they’ve somehow continued to keep their relative’s name and creations alive. Enslaved African Americans contributed so much to the foundation of this country. When slavery was ebolished. Many countless inventions were created by Black people, yet very little is ever mentioned about it. Their decendants are not recognized in the same regards as others who’ve been left with some sort of inheritance. This is not only about reparations. It’s about preservation”.
Ashe serves as producer and director on this project. However, this is not her first time behind the camera. HM (HEIGHT Magazine’s) Exclusive Interview is currently in its second season. Rae serves as host for the variety show which airs on HEIGHT Magazine TV viewable on YouTube. She has even managed to create and produce a reality show called, Learm How To Marry Me which films women in search of love while providing a list of demands to each man that pursue them.
All of these smaller productions have been very helpful with my journey into film and televsion.
I enjoy interviewing the guests that appear on the show. Hosting HM Exclusive Interviews has provided me with some of the experience an tools needed for producing this documentary. Each episode is an hour long and takes you through a family’s specific journey. There are so many amazing notalgic images, scenic routes of each town we visited and historical accounts that have never been told. It’s true African American History.
The documentary will be released in 2023.
